Joining

The Sky Pirates Club needs you!  We are trying to build up our membership. Whether you’re new to the hobby, or you’re an experienced pilot just looking for another place to fly, please check us out. Guests are always welcome at our meetings and at our flying field.

Steps to becoming a member:

1. Contact us using the Contact Us tab above or the email link at the bottom of this page. We will answer your questions, give you driving directions to the field and to our monthly meetings, and arrange a time to meet at the field.
2. Meet the members and check out the field.  If you are already an experienced pilot then you are welcome to fly with us a few times before joining.   If you are new to the hobby then we will put you up on one of our trainer airplanes with an instructor for some introductory flight instruction.
3. We require that you join the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) before becoming a member of our club.  You can join the AMA online through their website or we can a provide a paper application form for you to mail to the AMA.  AMA’s membership fee is $58 per year for adults or $1 (one dollar) per year for juniors.
4. Complete our club’s membership application with payment and either send it to the address on the form or bring it to one of our meetings. Adult membership dues are $100 annually plus a one-time $50 initiation fee.  Junior membership (under 19 years old or a full-time student) dues are $50 annually plus a one-time $25 initiation fee.  Dues are pro-rated for new members joining partway through the flying season.
5. If you are a beginner we will introduce you to our instructors, who will guide you though choosing and setting up an aircraft and provide flight instruction.  Even if you are an experienced pilot you will need to fly with an instructor once or twice to learn our field regulations and show us that you can fly safely.
6. Benefits of membership in our club include unlimited use of our field (within flying hours), free flight instruction, and friendship with a really great bunch of modelers, including some very accomplished pilots.
