This Saturday we plan to have our field cleanup day. For the weed killer project, I will be bringing the chemical (Trimec), two walk behind broadcast liquid spreaders and 25 gallons of water. Best I can figure it will take about 60 gallons to cover the entire field, so if you can bring some water it will be helpful. Here’s an easy way to carry some. Put a large plastic garbage bag in a cooler/ice chest. Fill it with water then tie it off. The bag keeps the water from sloshing around and the cooler holds the bag and keeps it from moving/leaking. I have a Coleman 48 quart cooler and can carry 12 gallons no problem. Just be sure and put the cooler in the car before you fill it. It’s going to get heavy. Also depending on the size of the cooler, you might need to put two bags side by side to fill the cooler. As I said, these are walk behind broadcast liquid spreaders, so the grass you are walking through is going to be wet. I would recommend against wearing sneakers.

For the fence project, I will have new plastic fencing, wires to run along the top and bottom and tie wires. I would recommend bringing a good pair of lineman’s pliers if you have then, and a pair of work gloves wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I hope to be there by 9:00 but I have to pick up the spreaders that morning. If you get there before me, feel free to start taking down the old fence. Please, not the posts, just the fence. Rain date TBD. If it looks like Saturday is a washout, I’ll send out another email.

One other note. Doylestown airport is holding their ‘Celebration of Flight’ on Saturday May 17th. Last year we were invited and did a static display in one of the hangers. I don’t know if we will be invited again this year, but you might want to set the date aside just in case. The rain date is May 18th.

Hope to see you all on Saturday. Happy flying.

Dave Weldin

Rich Rycharski is looking for volunteers to assist with a Boy Scout aviation activity on Saturday, April 12 at Tamanend Park on 2nd Street Pike in Southampton. We will have a static display and flight simulator. Depending upon the weather and the available open space, we may try to fly an electric model. Please contact Rich if you can help. It is from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m (see note from Rich below on this time slot). Tamanend Park is about 5 minutes drive from our meeting location. There will be around 250 Scouts plus adult leaders. Could be an opportunity to bring new members.Additional info from Rich: Guys,I have a bit more info about the Boy Scout event; we’re pretty much able to set up as long as we’re interested. The time originally mentioned from 11 to 2 isn’t actually the best because that spans the lunch break, and all the scouts will be tied up for half that time cooking lunch. I’ll leave it up to anyone who’s planning to help to decide what works best, AM or PM. Please let me know. By the way, there is electricity available and pavilions for cover. Thanks,Rich
